Resilience + Resistance NYC // Public Food and Urban Agriculture

  • Swale Floating Food Forest Pier 2 Promenade Brooklyn, NY, 11201 United States (map)

Eco Practicum NYC on board Swale floating food forest

Spend the week exploring the many ways that food shapes New York City. Learn about the policies that make it illegal to grow and forage for food in public parks, and consider cooperative local stewardship as an alternative to traditional conservation practices. Consider the precarious role of government in making decisions about food and land, and the issues surrounding resilience as the climate becomes ever more unpredictable.

Program Highlights:

  • Make healing tinctures with medicinal plants
  • Visit Bed-Stuy Campaign Against Hunger, the largest food pantry and urban farm in Brooklyn
  • Embark on a food foraging expedition with freegan.info
  • Host a film screening of Agnes Varda’s “The Gleaners and I” and discuss gleaning as creative practice
